Chief economist of the International Energy Agency retracts the IEA's long-standing, ostrich-like rejection of imminent Peak Oil. Note the "ooops, we were wrong" correction from 3.7% decline rate to 6.7% decline rate. How could they have made such a significant mistake?

The Hirsch Report: Commissioned by the U.S. Dept of Energy, this 2005 report (90-page PDF) concluded that "as peaking is approached, liquid fuel prices and price volatility will increase dramatically, and, without timely mitigation, the economic, social, and political costs will be unprecedented. Viable mitigation options exist on both the supply and demand sides, but to have substantial impact, they must be initiated more than a decade in advance of peaking."
