Business-as-Usual / Optimistic Views
In order to cover all the bases, I include a few links to views of the future that invoke or project little or no change in the basics of modern society—often referred to as the "business-as-usual" (BAU) viewpoint, and to optimistic views, typically founded on technological advances that solve all of our "problems." Because you can find lots of this in mainstream sources, and because I so strongly doubt these scenarios will play out, I don't list much here.
The Millenium Project's Energy Scenarios: This global think tank fleshed out four future scenarios that incorporate different projections, chiefly differing in the energy picture: Business as Usual, Environmental Backlash, High-Tech Economy, and Political Turmoil.
